Welcome to Eluvium. We are Local Beer

A Quality Experience

Eluvium Brewing Company is a small, community-driven brewery with a passion for crafting high-quality beers that everyone can enjoy. Founded by Jon and Shea Varner in 2016, the brewery opened its doors in the fall of 2017, quickly becoming a beloved part of the Weaverville and North Carolina craft beer scene.

In 2024, the torch was passed to John and Danyel Arrants, close friends and long-time supporters of Eluvium Brewing. John, who has dedicated several years of his life to the brewery, along with Danyel, continues the mission of sharing the beers we love with our community. With deep roots in the area, they are committed to maintaining the brewery’s legacy as a place where family, friends, and great beer come together.

The Story Behind the Name

When Eluvium Brewing Company was first established, choosing a name that reflected both our roots and aspirations was no easy task. Drawing inspiration from North Carolina's rich history, we discovered a story that resonated deeply with our journey. Long before the famous California gold rush, North Carolina was the nation’s leading producer of gold. The rush began at Reed’s Mine in Cabarrus County when a young boy stumbled upon a 17-pound gold nugget. This discovery ignited a golden era that put North Carolina on the map.

We chose the name "Eluvium" because it symbolizes something rare and valuable left behind after time and effort—just like the exceptional beers we craft. In geology, "eluvium" refers to gold deposits that remain after the surrounding soil and sediment have been washed away, leaving behind rich, heavy gold. These deposits are found close to the source, where the largest nuggets are uncovered.

Now, as we transition to new ownership under John and Danyel Arrants, the name Eluvium takes on even greater significance. It represents not just our quest to brew gold medal-worthy beer, but also the enduring legacy of family, friends, and craft beer. We invite you to join us, enjoy a pint, and be part of our continued journey as we carry forward the tradition of excellence and community.
